Located in the heart of Biddeford, Reilly’s Bakery has quietly shaped the rhythm of Main Street for over a century.
Each morning, familiar faces gather inside to share stories and smiles. Behind the counter, clerks greet many of the customers by name, warmly asking each person after boxing up their baked goods, “Would you like this wrapped with string?” These small touches—simple acts of care—reflect their genuine love for serving the community.
Founded by Edward Reilly in 1910, the bakery began with a focus on quality and traditional baking that it still stands by today. In the 1950s, Edward’s grandson Michael Reilly started working there as a teenager and took over the business from his father in 1983.
Throughout the 20th century, Reilly’s Bakery continued to be a cornerstone of Biddeford city life, supplying bread and baked goods to locals and visitors alike. Known for using recipes passed down through generations (including their famous donuts, cookies and pies), Reilly’s Bakery has weathered many economic changes all while still maintaining its reputation for quality and consistency.
After five decades of dedication, Michael Reilly passed the reins of Reilly’s Bakery to his daughter, Elizabeth Hussey, in 2015. Alongside her husband, Kevin, Elizabeth continues the family legacy, honoring generations of tradition while bringing thoughtful innovation to the bakery’s day-to-day. Michael still works part-time to help with the baking, offer his years of guidance and stay close to the business he’s been part of since childhood.
